Candies are undoubtedly the most favorite sweet confections for anyone. There are simple ways using which anyone can make this at home. The only thing to remember is to read the entire recipe and understand the requirements for making the candies. One of the important tricks of candy making is that it requires perfect temperature conditions and the steps has to be done at the right stage in order to get the desired results. Also making candy needs constant monitoring without which the candy will get burnt.
Climatic conditions also play a major role in candy making. Do not try to make candies when the weather is too humid or during rainy seasons. This does not allow the candy to be set. In case the conditions are not optimal make the candies at slightly higher temperatures. Getting a good thermometer is one of the basic requirements due to the temperature measurements. Being in a great mindset is equally important as well as it an art to making candies. Looking for a good candy thermometer is vital. While measuring the temperature, one has to only measure the temperature of the candy and not the candy making vessel. The thermometer should never touch the base of the pan. The cooking pan must be long enough so that the thermometer can be hung at the lip of the pan.
Do not attempt making any changes in the recipe. Unless they are measured to accuracy, the desired taste of the candy cannot be achieved. Changing the ingredients or doubling the ingredients used might also result in a failure. Understanding how to check the hardness of the candy is equally important. Go through tutorials or any YouTube videos to understand checking the hardness of the candy.
Some of the ingredients that are required are sugar, corn syrup, hot water and food color are some of the requirements for the basic candy recipe. To start making the candy, take a large saucepan and add sugar, corn syrup and water. Stir all the ingredients together over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Allow the mixture to boil without mixing for about five minutes. As it boils, raise the heat levels until it reaches about 150 degrees. At this time, add the food coloring and flavor to the boiling mixture. By doing this we are infusing the flavors and coloring into the candy. Once the temperature of 150 degrees is reached remove from the stove.
After removing the candy mixture from the stove, one can add the necessary flavoring and colors while the mixture is still hot. You can also explore by adding some nuts or Kool-Aid to the mixture for better taste. Pour the mixture on a greased paper and allow it to cool Spread it well and allow it to cool well. There is no need to deep freeze or keep the mixture in the freezer. Once it’s cooled, the candy can then be broken into different pieces. You can dust the broken pieces with powdered sugar. Store them in a Mason jar or container for use later.
